The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority is offering $1 bus fares in the MyDART app from April 4 through May 31.
DART officials said they hope the move from $1.75 fares to $1 will ease the public’s financial worries as gas prices continue to rise, according to a news release on Thursday. The fare can be paid in cash on the bus or with a card on the mobile app.
“Gas, groceries and rent are among the most significant contributors to the rising costs many consumers are grappling with,” Erin Hockman, DART chief external affairs officer, said in the release. “By making an already affordable means of transportation even more affordable, we hope more people will consider using DART and experiencing firsthand just how much money they can save.”

According to AAA on Friday, the average cost in Iowa for a tank of regular gasoline is $3.87; nationally, it’s $4.26
DART’s services include local routes, which operate between and within cities in the Des Moines metro area all day, and express routes, which operate during peak commute hours between the suburbs and downtown. Information about routes can be found on the DART website.
